WITH THE FIRST ONLINE DESIGN MUSEUM, TUSCANY SETS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE
by Federica Capoduri
Open to the public in 2021, the new ADI Design Museum, promoted by ADI in partnership with the City of Milan, is a dynamic space of over 5,000 square metres housing the Compasso d’Oro collection, i. e. the objects that have won the prestigious award for Italian design from 1954 to the present day. Located in the former Enel area of Porta Volta in Milan, the exhibition design and layout is by Studio Migliore+Servetto Architects and Italo Lupi. The prestigious historical collection of more than two thousand items required a design and narrative approach capable of enhancing the value of a heritage that encompasses the evolution of culture, taste and technological development, in a dialogue with the contemporary world made up of exhibitions and moments of reflection on the active role of museums in relation to other national institutions and society, with the help of the web. Luciano Galimberti, president of ADI, shares his views on the subject in this interview.
THE ARCO LAMP AS SEEN BY GIOVANNA CASTIGLIONI
by Monica Moro
The splendid Arco lamp, designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for FLOS, which has made a profound mark on Italian design, is currently the only lamp ever to have been awarded a “career award”, as a leading figure, with the Compasso d’oro 2020. In this article dedicated to its 60th birthday, to learn more about it, I interviewed for LUCE Giovanna Castiglioni, the youngest of Achille Castiglioni’s three children, who in turn was the youngest brother of the three inseparable and famous designers. Vice-president of the Fondazione Achille Castiglioni, or rather storyteller, Giovanna is committed to telling the story of the “Castiglionistyle” working method to an audience from all over the world in the historic Studio Castiglioni, today a Foundation and Museum.

awards, two of which awarded for your lamp designs.
LIGHT THAT LIGHTS UP THE FUTURE
by Gisella Borioli
Light was the core from which the entire exhibition Looking Ahead (Creative Direction Gisella Borioni, Art direction Giulio Cappellini, ed.) branched out. The main event of the Tortona District Superdesign Show was on view from 6th to 12th June, in the main Hall of Superstudio Più during Milan Design Week 2022. An impressive installation of twelve six-metershigh beams of light intertwined from heaven to earth, and creating a symbolic hut, ideally welcomed and directed the visiting design tribe with all its rituals and myths.
THE CATHEDRAL AND RAGUSA SHINE IN A NEW LIGHT
by Paolo Calafiore
The artistic lighting design for the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, UNESCO heritage, came from a careful historical and architectural reading of the Cathedral, centred on a survey carried out through the analysis of data provided by the Technical Office of the City of Ragusa, a photographic and dimensional
survey together with a lighting survey of the current state, as well as an in-depth historical and architectural study on the genesis of its construction. The sumptuous and refined sculptures of the central portal and the decorations that embellish the façade are not the only features that distinguish this Baroque monument. The façade, with a daring and spectacular architectural solution, rises on a large hanging terrace-parvis that dominates the centre of the city, making it the focal point of the orderly urban layout, gathered around the sacred building.
In LUCE 340.2022 you will find many other articles, special reports, interviews, and insights. We are always on the lookout for new suggestions and ideas to understand, explain and raise awareness of the world of Italian and international lighting. Keep reading and writing to us.
